The Vancouver International Film Festival returns for their 45th year this October 1-11 for another curated season celebrating the best in independent, Canadian, documentary, and international shorts and features.

The year is 2022 and Gleb, a powerful CEO at a Russian transport company, is contending with the fallout of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Amid conflicting political and corporate pressures, as well as the grim consequences of the draft, he tries to insulate his home life from the consequences of the war. But when he discovers that his wife Galina has been having an affair, the tenuous order of his life starts to implode.

Winner of the Grand Prix at this year’s Cannes, Minotaur is the explosive latest feature from Russian master Andrey Zvyagintsev. A bold transposition of Claude Chabrol’s 1969 The Unfaithful Wife to contemporary Russia, Zvyagintsev’s film manages to imbue an icy domestic thriller with political urgency and a downright mythic heft. Shot by necessity in Latvia, outside the director’s native country, this is a searing indictment of political violence and corruption, and a bracing reminder of the monsters we keep at home.

VIFF screenings at the Park Theatre will be busy! All seating is General Admission. We encourage all patrons to purchase tickets in advance to ensure entry, and to please come early (20-30 mins at least) to ensure time to locate great seats and purchase drinks and snacks at concession. The Park Theatre has a small lobby, and coming early helps prevent long lines and bottle-necking.
