Mother Mary
In David Lowery’s (THE GREEN KNIGHT, A GHOST STORY) endlessly stylish psycho-drama thriller MOTHER MARY, long-buried wounds rise to the surface when iconic pop star Mother Mary (Anne Hathaway) reunites with her estranged best friend and former costume designer Sam Anselm (Michaela Coel) on the eve of her comeback performance. Featuring original songs from Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX. With Hunter Schafer, FKA Twigs, Jessica Brown Findlay, Kaia Gerber.
“‘Mother Mary’ represents the sort of individual, original storytelling that feels all too rare in an industry pushed more and more towards adaptations, reboots and sequels.” (Little White Lies)
“A defiantly avant-garde take on commercial chart-toppers. It’s not for everyone, but it deserves to be: a gorgeous fusion of film, fashion, faith, and certified bangers.” (Empire Magazine)
“It’s the furthest thing from the kind of mainstream-pop fame Mary seems to represent, but that dissonance is what makes Lowery’s storytelling so unique.” (The Atlantic)
“… Another story about the intersection of fame and art, but it’s not like one you’ve seen before, a two-hander that owes as much to ‘The Exorcist’ as it does to Lady Gaga.” (Roger Ebert.com)
