Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie
Since its release in February, NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE has emerged as one of the biggest and boldest Canadian films in years (possibly decades). To mark the milestone of what is now a bona-fide cult-classic, we are adding a very special screening of NTBTSTM back to our schedule on the very same day that the boys travel back in time… July 11. (You know the rest.)
Almost 20 years into their fruitless quest to book their band a gig at a hallowed Toronto venue, co-creators Matt (writer-director Matt Johnson) and Jay (writer-composer Jay McCarrol) decide it’s time to pull out all the stops. Displaced in the past, these serial bumblers inadvertently wreak havoc on the timeline, dramatically (and hilariously) rewriting their futures.
Overflowing with pop culture references, wild gags, and inspired set pieces, NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE is gloriously ridiculous, endlessly clever, and riotously entertaining. This one is for all the deranged dreamers out there.
“The shrewd visual trickery and sleight-of-hand editing that collapse the distance between the original series’ zero-budget aesthetic and this more comfortably subsidized version can’t actually erase the passage of time. If anything, they deepen it. Content collapsed.” (The Ringer)
“A thrilling, roof-shaking blast.” (A thrilling, roof-shaking blast.” (Slate)
