Paris, Texas (4K Restoration)

A place for dreams. A place for heartbreak. A place to pick up the pieces.

Wim Wenders‘ Palme d’Or-winning PARIS, TEXAS is a fantastic example of the iconic New German filmmaker’s keen eye for detail in a film that embraces the austere yet expansive beauty of the American Southwest. Written by the late, great Sam Shepard, this sweetly desolate road movie takes place in a mythologized Reagan-era America as it follows a disheveled man, Travis Henderson (Harry Dean Stanton, never better) who wanders out of the desert, seemingly with no idea of who he is. When a stranger manages to contact his brother, Walt, Travis is awkwardly reunited with his sibling. Travis has been missing for years, and his presence unsettles Walt and his family, which also includes Travis’s own son, Hunter. Soon Travis must confront his wife, Jane , and try to put his life back together. With, Dean Stockwell, Nastassja Kinski and Hunter Carson.

“The movie lacks any of the gimmicks used to pump up emotion and add story interest, because it doesn’t need them: It is fascinated by the sadness of its own truth.” (Roger Ebert)

“… A film that remains, for this critic, the crowning achievement of Wenders’ speckled, frequently brilliant career: the one in which his dual inclinations toward aesthetic grandeur and emotional intimacy find their most serene meeting point, outclassing even such subsequent masterclasses as ;Wings of Desire’ and ‘Pina’.” (The Guardian)

“A quiet yet deeply moving kind of Western, ‘Paris, Texas’ captures a place and people like never before (or after).” (Rotten Tomatoes)
